hilbert @ mallowhallow
District: Whitewood
Personality:
Like any protagonist in the Pokémon games, he is a mime. Silent. Someone you interpret based on their actions. There are, however, key words that fit in perfectly with someone called "the Hero of Ideals" and from that (alongside the reactions of characters within the game) can be spoken of. They're paired neatly with side affects.
Hilbert is brave and faithful. You don't stand up to an entire organization unless you really know in your heart what they're doing is wrong, you don't accept responsibility of awakening a dragon that's been asleep for a long time without being courageous, and you certainly don't face off against a megalomaniac who has no qualms about killing you or his "son" without some brass balls. Hilbert, even when he's completely frightened at what the future might hold if he does this or that, will do what he believes is right and pull through - even if it lands him in hot water. The quote that speaks about how courage isn't the absence of fear; it's overcoming it is exactly his motto, and it hasn't failed him. His strong belief in his team and the ideals he held allowed him to not only impress N, who was a stone wall when it came to humans at the time, but awakened Zekrom and befriend it. Unfortunately, this leads to Hilbert being reckless and too stubborn for his own good.
Compassion is also a virtue he has. Whether it be a hurt wild Pokémon or a plea from a stranger, Hilbert is eager to help out. He would suffer from chronic hero syndrome if he created the situations themselves, but as it is he has only the impulsive heart to do whatever he can to help out someone. Even if they're shady or hooligans. His empathetic heart also came in handy when dealing with N, and though he held strong to his belief that humans and Pokémon shouldn't be separated he was able to see the other's side and understand why he thought what. It also made him fighting Ghetsis a lot easier, after seeing N's room and hearing from N's caretakers. So very satisfying. He's very vengeful when it comes to getting back at people who have hurt others somehow.
Strategic is a word used to describe him as well. He doesn't rely on pure power unless that's what his partner is built for and remains steadfastly someone who plays keep away until he's got his opponent figured out. He was able to roll through Gyms rather easily due to this, and was a star on the Battle Subway. Hilbert really loves to battle! It's something that gets his mind and heart racing, though this has a bad side to it as well. It makes him very much a sore loser if he messes up, and he'll berate himself or deny that he had ever made the mistake in the first place, only calling the other's good fortune just that.
Hilbert's also very determined, which can lead to a bout of seemingly childish stubbornness if he thinks his way is right over another's. He won't stop until he's got his way or come to a compromise, and his thick-headedness has caused more than one argument within his own team. But like family, they're always fine at the end of the day. Despite the bad that comes with such determination, Hilbert takes it in stride and remains level-headed.
Idealistic, or optimistic in case of behavior, is his prime trait for why Zekrom recognized him. Hilbert has a semi-high bar of standard that he expects others to follow because of this, seeing that if he can do it they should be able to do it as well, and if they fall from it he's very disappointed. It doesn't ruin friendships and he's quick to forgive, but the very nature of the dreamer means that he has his head in the clouds and can seem presumptuous to others.
He also enjoys fishing very much. It's a sport that he doesn't excel at persay, but does love. Other than that, Hilbert is very much a "jack of all trades, master of one" because he likes to try new things and quickly becomes bored of something if it doesn't fit his tastes or he can't get better at it. He likes to cook because it reminds him of home when his mother would ask him to help her out, but isn't that good at it. He can't draw worth beans either, though he spends lazy mornings drawing stylized Pokémon. Sewing? Really good at repairing his clothes and bag, but hates pricking himself and asks others to do it for him. Prefers the air to the land, the sea to the sky, and the land to the swamp. He's a very clean person with a neat room and organized mind.
